886,236. Viscosimeters. SUCKER G.m.b.H. GEB. Feb. 20, 1958 [Feb. 23, 1957], No. 5558/58. Addition to 740,922 as improved upon by 768,472. Class 106 (2). Apparatus for testing a sizing liquid in accordance with the parent Specification, is modified by the use of a different form of variable restriction. The outlet from the viscosity meter 3 communicates with a tubular member 5 into which projects an axially adjustable peg member 52. The sizing liquid is pumped from a container 1 by a pump 2 and into the chamber 3 from beneath. From the chamber 3 it flows back by way of a conduit 4 and the member 5 into the container 1. Records are made both of the pressure of the gas in the chamber 3 and also of the temperature in the container 1, the pressure being a direct measure of the viscosity of the liquid. A float 34 prevents the liquid from flowing into the outlet pipe 31 of the chamber 3. The passage in the member 5 is formed between a conical peg 52 and a part-conical member 51. The peg 52 is adjustable axially by screwing, the amount of adjustment being indicated on a scale 55, and a spring-urged ball (not shown) is used to hold the peg in one of several positions. The liquid may be pumped for periods of four minutes with a run of about 10 to 20 seconds in the other direction in between. During the reversal, a negative pressure exists in the chamber 3 and this may also be indicated to give a measure of the viscosity.
