Abstract
1398947 Gas determining apparatus HARTMANN & BRAUN AG 31 Oct 1973 [18 Nov 1972] 50579/73 Heading G1N Apparatus for measuring trace amounts of gas by measuring the conductivity of a liquid before and after absorption of the gas therein utilizes a thermostatically controlled bath 5 of the liquid and a flow metering device comprising a level regulator 4 with a float valve 6. The liquid flows down vertical tube 9 and through reference conductivity cell 11 and capillary tube 12. The gas passes through filter 13, tube 15 and capillary 14 to meet the liquid in downwardly sloping tube 16. The gas inlet is also connected to the gas chamber of the level regulator 4 and to an outlet of pipe 24 below the surface of the liquid in bath 5. The tube 16 passes into a vertical arm of U tube 17 which has the measuring cell 19 in its downstream arm. Nozzle-like branch 18 emerges from the vertical arm 17 and has a sloping portion 23 and a glass rod 22 on the opposite wall which is said to aid the flow from tube 16 into the U tube and prevent outflow from or flow into branch 18. After conductivity measurement the gas containing liquid is exhausted into the liquid in vessel 5, the level being maintained constant by pipe 20 and suction pump 22. The gas concentration is determined at 26 from the difference of the two conductivities and displayed at 27. Device 26 also controls resistance heater 28.
