958,962. Photothermographic materials. KODAK Ltd. June 1,1960 [June 3, 1959], No. 19334/60. Addition to 866,777. Heading G2C. The invention of the parent Specification is modified in that the coating weight of silver in the silver halide layer is 1 mole for between 4000 and 850,000 sq.ft. of surface. Moreover, futher materials are specified for use in the heat-sensitive layer. These may be the p-quinone/dihydroxybenzene mixtures of Specification 927,895, a mixture of lead formate and mercuric oxalate, a mixture of thiourea and a salt of apolyvalent metal such as nickel acetate, or a mixture of mercurous chloride and urea. Both sides of the support may be coated first with the silver halide emulsion layer and then with the heat-sensitive layer. In Example 1, the support if first coated with an aqueous gelatine composition containing hydroquinone, metol, sulphite, carbonate and potassium bromide before being coated with a silver halide emulsion layer and a heat-sensitive layer. In Example 6, the heat-sensitive layer comprises a mixture of nickel acetate and calsium sulphide, in Examples 7 and 8 it is diphenylcarbazone and copper or zinc stearate respectively, while in Example 9 silver behenate and behenic acid is used. In Example 10, the heat-sensitive layer comprises cellulose acetate or ethyl-cellulose containing baryta and blushed by the introduction of air bubbles. On infra-red exposure, the bubbles collapse in the image areas and form a clear image. Specification 725,667 also is referred to.
