Abstract

1342525 Heat-processable photographic material EASTMAN KODAK CO 27 May 1971 [3 June 1970] 17632/71 Heading G2C A heat-processable photographic material comprises a support and contained in a layer or layers thereof (a) an oxidation/reduction image-forming system comprising: (b) a lightinsensitive reducible metal compound and (c) an organic reducing agent therefor, (d) a photosensitive silver compound capable, on exposure to actinic radiation of forming centres, which catalyse the thermally induced oxidation/reduction reaction of (b) and (c) to form a visible image and (e) a colourless photographic speed-increasing anium halide, which may be a quaternary ammonium, quaternary phosphonium or ternary sulphonium halide, e.g. 1-phenethyl-2- picolinium bromide, trimethylphenylammonium bromide, w-hydroxydecylpyridinium chloride, tetra-n-propyl-ammonium bromide or iodide, tetraethylphosphonium bromide or trimethylsulphonium iodide. The anium halide may be methapyrilene hydrochloride (Ex 1). The material may contain phthalazinone, phthalimide or succinimide as a toning agent. The metal compound (b) may be a silver salt of a fatty acid containing more than 12C e. g. silver behenate which may be used with behenic acid, or may be a reducible gold or mercury compound e. g. gold stearate, mercuric behenate and auric behenate. The reducing agent (c) may be a silver halide developing agent e. g. a bisnaphthol such as 2, 2'-dihydroxy-1,1'-binaphthyl. The components may be contained in a colloid binder such as polyvinyl butyral. The silver compound (d) may be a silver halide which may be sensitized with a sensitizing dye. The anium halides increase the photographic speed of the materials and in some cases reduce the background density. Specification 1110046 is referred to.
