Abstract

1297115 Photographic diffusion transfer material AGFA-GEVAERT 28 Nov 1969 [6 Dec 1968] 58152/68 Heading G2C Photographic material for the silver salt diffusion transfer process comprises, in order, (1) a flexible transparent support sheet, (2) an image-receiving layer comprising development nuclei, (3) a layer containing 7-25 g.m<SP>-2</SP> of opaque pigment and 0À5-4g-m<SP>-2</SP> of hydrophilic colloid binder, and (4) a silver halide emulsion layer having D max of up to 0À8. Layer (3) prevents the negative formed in layer (4) being seen when viewing the positive image formed in (2) through (1); it preferably contains BaSO 4 and/or TiO 2 in a binder consisting of gelatine, HCHO and a hydrophilic colloid which is a latent hardener (especially a propylene glycol ester of alginic acid). The low D max in layer (4) may be achieved using an emulsion containing a small amount of silver halide, large silver grains, or pigment which partially obscures the image formed therein. Layers (2) and (4) may also contain one or more developing agents (e.g. hydroquinone and 1-phenyl- 3-pyrazolidone). The back of (1) may be coated with a matting layer, especially of gelatine and silica.
