Abstract

1,221,980. Light-sensitive photographic material having protective stripes. EASTMAN KODAK CO. May 30, 1968 [May 31, 1967], No.26052/68 Heading G2C. A light-sensitive photographic material, e.g. a silver halide material, comprising a support having on at least one side a light-sensitive layer, carries in areas of the sensitive surface not intended for image formation a protective layer of discrete particles in a binder, the diameter of the particles being sufficient to prevent abrasion of the sensitive layer by any other surface placed in contact with the material. The light-sensitive layer may be coated over the whole area of the support and the protective layer may be coated only over those areas of the light-sensitive layer not intended for image formation, e. g. the two opposite edges of a film strip and the areas between the frames, or the light-sensitive layer may be coated only over the areas intended for image formation and the protective layer may be coated on the rest of the surface of the support. The particles may be of glass, polymethylmethacrylate or polystyrene in a binder of gelatine or gelatine and copoly (methyl acrylate 80% - acrylic acid 20%) and may have diameters of 20-200 microns. The protective layer in particular prevents abrasion of the sensitive surface by the back of the support when the material is rolled up.
