Abstract
755,412. Element and photographic film assembly for the silver halide diffusion transfer processes. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. Dec. 17, 1954 [Dec. 29, 1953], No. 36564/54. Class 98 (2). A print-receiving element 10 designed to prevent access of degrading material such as sulphur to the rear of a print to be formed therein (and which print after formation may be protected on its upper surface by a film or composition as described in Specification 746,565) comprises a print receiving stratum 16 preferably of a dried dispersion of silica containing a silver precipitating agent such as a metallic sulphide or colloidal metal, coated on a subcoat 14 comprising two superposed films 14a and 14b preferably of cellulose acetate and plasticized polyvinyl butyral or acrylic resin respectively, the plasticizers being of types incompatible with cellulose acetate and therefore unable to permeate through film 14a, and then a support 12 as of paper, baryta paper or cellulose ester. The element may comprise part of a composite film unit having photosensitive element 18, with film support 22 and silver halide emulsion 20, and processing composition container 24 capable of discharging its contents between the emulsion and the element 10 adjacent thereto as shown in Fig. 2, or may constitute a part of the film assemblies of Specification 684,592. Numerous alternative materials for construction of the element are described.
