Abstract
1,125,922. Photographic dye-developer transfer materials. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORP. April 25, 1966 [April 23, 1965; Sept. 13, 1965], No. 18068/66. Heading G2C. A multi-layer photo-sensitive material for use in the diffusion-transfer colour process comprises a support carrying on one side atleast two optically sensitized silver halide emulsion layers having dye developers associated therewith, adjacent emulsion layers being separated by a polymeric spacer layer as defined below. The polymeric space layer is dye permeable only when hydrated, but is permeable to alkaline processing solns., and is hydrated thereby at a rate less than the development rate of the emulsion layer adjacent the support, but greater than the fogging rate of the emulsion layer adjacent the support. Specified polymer layers are a vinyl acetate-crotonic acid copolymer containing less than 5% combined crotonic acid, isopropyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, all of which may be dispersed in gelatine or polyvinylalcohol. The material may be a conventional tripack material and may be affixed at one edge to an image receiving member which comprises e.g. a support carrying apolymeric acid layer overcoated with a dyeable polymeric image-receiving layer. A rupturable container containing the processing soln., may be affixed to an edge of either the sensitive material or the image receiving material, so that after exposure and the contacting of the two layers the soln., is spread in the usual manner. Development may take place in the presence of an onium compound as disclosed in Specification 938, 865.
