Abstract

1308492 Photographic colour transfer POLAROID CORP 6 May 1970 [9 May 1969] 21900/70 Heading G2C Photographic colour transfer images are formed by developing a photo-sensitive element which includes an exposed silver halide emulsion with aqueous alkaline processing composition in the presence of (1) a first colour providing material which is normally diffusible in the composition but which resets during development to form a non-diffusible colour providing material in the exposed (or unexposed) areas, and (2) a second colour providing material which is normally non-diffusible but which reacts during development to form a diffusible colour providing material in the unexposed (or exposed) areas, thus forming 2 imagewise distributions of diffusible colour-providing material each in the unexposed (or exposed) areas, and transferring at least part of each distribution to a superposed image-receiving stratum. In a first embodiment (1) is a diffusible dye developer which on development forms a non-diffusible oxidation product, and (2) is a dye which reacts with the silver complex to form an oxidation product which undergoes infra-molecular ring-closure with the elimination of a diffusible dye moiety; there may be used development nuclei to effect the reaction between (2) and the complex, and/or a scavenger to prevent reaction between (2) and oxidized (1). In a second embodiment (1) contains a dyemoiety and an anti-foggant moiety and reacts with the silver complex to form a non-diffusible product, and (2) reacts with either the exposed silver halide or undergoes a redox action with oxidized developing agent, to form an oxidation product which undergoes intramolecular ring- closure as described above. The dye-images formed from the diffusible materials may be of the same or complementary colours.
