Abstract
1399482 Amplified photographic image EASTMAN KODAK CO 7 June 1972 [7 June 1971 14 Oct 1971] 26632/72 Heading G2C, G2H The production of an amplified photographic image involves an imagewise redox reaction between an oxidising cobaltic complex and a reducing agent (e.g. developer) in the presence of the image as catalyst. The catalyst may be of silver, gold or platinum. It may be imagewise inhibited. The complex may be present in the photographic material or the developer. The photographic material may be monotone or multicolour. An imagewise change in light value may be produced by the redox reaction, by further reaction of one redox product with the other or another material or by inhibition by one redox product of a reaction of another material. Alternatively, a tanned'gelatine image produced by the redox reaction followed by washing may be dyed. The amplified image may be transferred to or be produced in a receiver sheet or may be supplement or replace the original image. Examples given include treatment of an exposed silver halide emulsion layer containing a colour coupler with a solution of colour developer and complex optionally after a normal or reversal black and white development. An electro-photographically produced toner image comprising activated carbon may be intensified by treatment with a solution containing a reducible cobaltic complex, colour developer and colour coupler.
