Abstract

1,217,194. Photographic bleach-fixing. ILFORD Ltd. July 16, 1969 [July 24, 1968; April 14, 1969], Nos.35340/68 and 18934/69. Heading G2C. Exposed and colour-developed photographic silver halide colour materials are bleach-fixed with a bleach-fix bath containing as oxidizing agent a ferric chelate or a diaquo-tetramiminecobalt (III) complex and as silver halide solvent a thiosulphate or thiocyanate, the bleach-fix bath or a stop, wash or stop-fix bath with which the material is treated between development and bleachfixing containing a water-soluble selenocyanate e.g. potassium selenocyanate, a selenourea of the formula:- where R 1 , R 2 and R, are H or alkyl, at least one being H, e.g. selenourea or the N-methyl or N:N-dimethyl derivatives, or a selenouracil of the formula:- where R 5 and R 6 are H or one is H and the other is alkyl of 1-6 C e.g. 2-selenouracil. The selenium compounds improve the bleaching efficiency of the bleach-fix baths.
