Abstract

1,271,392. Photographic diffusible dye transfer processes. POLAROID CORP. July 18, 1969 [July 18, 1968], No.36280/69. Heading G2C. A photographic film unit comprises a photosensitive element containing a photo-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a dye image-providing material and a silver halide desensitizing agent, each of said material and said desensitizing agent being soluble and diffusible in alkali and said agent adapted in the solubilized state to effect desensitization of said photo-sensitive silver halide, an imagereceiving layer that is formed of a polymeric material and is dyeable by the dye image providing material and is permeable to alkaline solution and a dimensionally stable support. The desensitizing agent does not deleteriously effect either the composition of and/or the development of a latent image carried by the emulsion. The dimensionally stable support may be transparent and the image receiving layer may be between the transparent support and the silver halide layer. The dimensionally stable support may be opaque and the silver halide layer may be between it and the image-receiving layer and be capable of being exposed from the side opposite the opaque support. The photo-sensitive element may comprise an opaque support, the photo-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, the image receiving layer and a transparent support and means for securing the layers in fixed relationship. The film unit may contain an alkaline processing composition e.g. in a rupturable container which may also contain an opacifying agent. The film unit may contain an opaque layer of opacifying agent between the image-receiving and silver halide layers. The desensitizing agent may be in the processing composition or a processing composition permeable layer of the film unit. The preferred desensitizing agent has the formula:- and many others are listed.
