Abstract
1388154 Photographic silver halide dye diffusion transfer material EASTMAN KODAK CO 25 May 1972 [28 May 1971] 24717/72 Heading G2C A photographic assemblage comprises a photosensitive element comprising a support bearing at least one silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a non-diffusible coupler capable of reacting with oxidized aromatic primary amino colour developing agent to produce a diffusible dye, a dye image-receiving layer and a rupturable container retaining an alkaline processing composition, the assemblage containing an aromatic primary amino colour developing agent and a developing agent scavenger layer comprising an aldehydebisulphite addition product which may have the formula:- R-CH(OH)SO 3 M or MO 3 S-CH(OH)- (CH 2 ) n -CH(OH)-SO 3 M or be a polymer or copolymer having recurring units of the formula:- | -CH 2 -C(R)-CH(OH)-SO 3 M where R is H or optionally substituted alkyl; n is 1 to 6; and M is alkali metal or ammonium, and may be sodium formaldehyde or acetaldehyde bisulphite adduct or bis (sodium succinaldehyde or glutaraldehyde bisulphite) adduct. The photo-sensitive element may comprise red-, green- and blue-sensitive negative or direct-positive silver halide emulsion layers having associated therewith cyan, magenta and yellow non-diffusible couplers respectively. The dye image receiving layer may be coated on a separate support. The developing agent scavengerlayer may be located between the dye imagereceiving layer and its separate support (see Ex 1 to 5 and 14 to 16), on an opaque process sheet (see Ex 7 and 9), on a transparent process sheet (see Ex 11 and 13) or between the dye image-receiving layer and the nearest silver halide emulsion layer when there is only one support. A dye image-receiving material comprises a support bearing, in order, a developing agent scavenger layer comprising an aldehyde-bisulphite addition product and a dye image-receiving layer. A timing layer which may contain a light-reflective material may be present between the scavenger and image-receiving layers (see Ex 2.) The material may contain a pH lowering material e.g. in the scavenger layer (see Ex 1,2 and 14-16). Yellowish-brown stain in the image-receiving layer caused by aerial oxidation of unused colour developer present in the layer is reduced.
