Abstract

1362017 Photographic dye diffusion transfer process AGFA-GEVAERT AG 6 Oct 1971 [9 Oct 1970] 46461/71 Heading G2C A photographic dye diffusion transfer material comprises a transparent support having thereon, in order, an image-receiving layer, a light impermeable layer and a light-sensitive dyereleasing element comprising at least one silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a dye-releasing system, the material also comprising means for stripping the image-receiving layer from the dye-releasing element e.g. a stripping layer which may comprise watersoluble or alkali soluble derivatives of cellulose e.g. hydroxyethyl cellulose or cellulose, acetate hydrogen phthalate, sodium alginate or polyvinyl alcohol. The stripping layer may be above or below the light-impermeable layer or if the latter is composed of several partial layers, between these. The light-impermeable layer may contain inorganic or organic dark pigments e.g. carbon black and light reflecting pigments e.g. barium sulphate, oxides of zinc, titanium, silicon, aluminium and zirconium, barium stearate, calcium titanate and kaolin. The light impermeable layer may be the stripping layer. The dye-giving element may be covered with a transparent foil and an aqueous alkaline processing composition containing a light absorbent pigment may be applied to the imagewise exposed material between the dye-giving element and the transparent foil. An opaque cover sheet may be used similarly with the processing composition which need not contain a light absorbent pigment. Development may be effected in daylight and development may be controlled since the imagereceiving and dye-giving elements may be stripped apart as a satisfactory image is seen through the transparent support in the imagereceiving layer.
