Abstract

1464920 Photographic silver halide material having two dye image-receiving layers POLAROID CORP 22 March 1974 [23 March 1973] 12866/74 Heading G2C A photographic diffusion transfer film unit which comprises layers permanently secured together, comprises, in order, a first dimensionally stable transparent layer, a first dyeable layer, a first opaque layer, a photo-sensitive layer comprising at least one silver halide layer having associated therewith a compound providing, as a function of exposure, a diffusible dye imageforming material, a second, transparent, dyeable layer, and a second dimensionally stable transparent layer, the film unit also comprising means for forming a second opaque layer, comprising opacifying agent, between the second dyeable layer and the next adjacent silver halide layer, a processing composition and means for applying this in contact with the silver halide layer. The processing composition may have a first alkaline pH and the film unit may contain a polymeric neutralizing layer between at least one of the dimensionally stable transparent layers and its adjacent dyeable layer to lower the pH. The first opaque layer and after its formation the second opaque layer may be effective to prevent exposure of the photo-sensitive layer during processing in the presence of actinic radiation. The first opaque layer may comprise a carbon black layer and a titanium dioxide layer. The opacifying agent may comprise an inorganic reflecting pigment and at least one optical filter agent. The inorganic reflecting pigment may be disposed in a layer so that it does not prevent imagewise exposure but will mask the photosensitive layer on processing. U.K. Specification 874046 is referred to. The film unit of the present invention produces a positive right-reading diffusion transfer dye image irrespective of whether or not a camera or exposure device is used which has an optical reversal system.
