1447454 Heat-developable photographic materials FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 11 June 1974 [11 June 1973] 25941/74 Heading G2C Heat-developable photographic materials comprise a support containing in one or more layers (i) an organic silver salt e.g. silver behenate or laurate or silver benzotriazole, (ii) light-sensitive silver halide which, when exposed, catalyzes reduction of the organic silver salt to metallic silver on heating, (iii) a reducing agent, and (iv) a binder which may be omitted if (i) or (iii) can act as binder, wherein the silver halide is made simultaneously with and in the presence of the organic silver salt. The preparation is conducted by reacting a silver compound e.g. silver nitrate solution simultaneously with a halide of hydrogen, ammonium or a metal or an organic halogen compound and with a solution of the organic acid or a soluble salt thereof required to form the desired organic silver salt. In Examples, (1-3), solutions of silver nitrate and ammonium bromide or iodide or mixed bromide and iodide are added simultaneously to a toluene/water emulsion containing sodium laurate and lauric acid; (4), silver nitrate solution is added to a mixture of ammonium bromide solution and toleune/water emulsion containing lauric acid and sodium laurate; (5), a silver-ammonia complex solution and ammonium bromide solution are added simultaneously to a toluene/behenic acid/ nitric acid/water mixture; and (6), ammonium iodide solution and acidified silver nitrate solution are simultaneously added to benzotriazole in isopentanol. The materials have increased photographic speed compared with similar materials in which the silver halide and organic silver salt are not prepared together simultaneously.
