Abstract

1344546 Heat-developable photographic material EASTMAN KODAK CO 28 May 1971 [3 June 1970] 17760/71 Heading G2C A heat-developable photographic material comprises a support and contained in a binder in a layer or layers thereof (i) an oxidation-reduction image forming system comprising a lightinsensitive reducible metal compound and an organic reducing agent therefor, (ii) a photosensitive silver compound capable on exposure of forming centres which catalyse the thermally induced oxidation-reduction reaction in (i) to form a visible image and (iii) 0À5-50 g of a polyalkylene oxide or ether derivative thereof per mole of the reducible metal compound. The polyalkylene oxide may be a polyethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol ether having an average molecular weight of 300 - 20,000, e.g. polyethylene glycol oleyl ether. The binder may be polyvinyl butyral. The metal compound may be a silver salt of a fatty acid having more than 12 carbon atoms, e.g. silver behenate which may be used with behenic acid, or may be a reducible gold or mercury compound e.g. gold etecerate, mercuric behenate and auric behenate. The reducing agent may be a silver halide developing agent or a bis-naphthol. The photo-sensitive silver compound may be a silver halide which may be sensitised with a sensitizing dye (see Ex. 3 and 4). A 5-mercaptotetrazole may be present in the material to further increase its photographic speed. The material may contain a toner which comprises an organic heterocyclic compound containing at least two hetero atoms in the heterocyclic ring of which at least one is N, e.g. phthalimide. The polyalkylene oxide or its ether derivative may increase the photographic speed of the material. Specification 1, 110, 046 is referred to.
