Abstract
1,199,645. Photographic silver halide emulsions. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Dec.1, 1967 [Dec.2, 1966], No.54737/67. Heading G2C. In the preparation of a photographic silver halide emulsion, the silver halide grains are precipitated in the presence of a rhodium salt and thereafter a stabilizing amount of cadmium bromide is added. A silver halide solvent such as a water-soluble thiocyanate or an organic thioether may be present during precipitation or digestion of the silver halide grains. The emulsion may be chemically and optically sensitized and coated on to a support. Developing agents such as hydroquinone and 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone may be present in the emulsion or in a contiguous layer. Rhodium salts specified are rhodium ammonium chloride and rhodium mono-, di- and trichlorides. The cadmium bromide may be added just before the emulsion is coated and its effect is compared with that of cadmium chloride and potassium bromide. The use of cadmium bromide prevents the increased contrast obtained with the rhodium salt being lost on storage.
