Abstract

1420060 Photographic images by flash exposure of silver halide materials FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 28 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971 13 June 1972] 26429/75 Heading G2C A photographic image is produced by imagewise exposing for less than <SP>1</SP>/ 1000 second and developing a photographic light-sensitive silver halide material comprising a support bearing a silver halide emulsion layer containing a sensitizing amount of a simple merocyanine dye wherein the C atom at the 5-position of a 4-oxo-2-thioxo-1, 3-oxazolidine ring, rhodanine ring or 2-thiohydantoin ring is directly connected with the C atom at the 4- or 2-position of a pyridine ring, thiazole ring, selenazole ring, oxazole ring or imidazole ring which rings may have fused benzene or naphthalene rings. The dye may have the Formula:- where Y is O, S, or = NR'; R and R' are each a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group or aryl group which groups may be substituted or unsubstituted; and Z completes a pyridine, thiazole, selenazole, oxazole or imidazole ring, which rings may have fused benzene or naphthalene rings. The dye may have the Formula: where Y<SP>1</SP> is O or S; and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each unsubstituted alkyl, allyl, sulphoalkyl or carboxyalkyl. The mean grain size of the silver halide grains may be 0.04-0.8 micron. The emulsion may contain a sensitizing amount of a further sensitizing dye having its maximum light absorption at longer than 520 nm e.g. a carbocyanine or dimethine merocyanine dye (see Example 5).
