958,935. Cylinder heads and valve gear. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Dec. 15, 1961 [Dec. 20, 1960], No. 45052/61. Heading FIB. A cylinder head for an overhead valve air cooled engine comprises a head part 3, containing valve seats, valve guides 7, an injector nozzle 27 upstream of the valves and cooling ribs 14 in the space between the guides 7, and a separate valve chest 4 containing the bearing means 20 for the valve rockers 22. The ribs 14, Fig. 5, are slightly S-shaped and run in a cavity between the inlet and outlet passages 10, 11, the air flow to and from which is guided by further ribs 15, 16. The tops of the ribs 14 are accessible upon removal of the valve chest 4, the ends of the cavity being bridged across by bridge pieces 35, 36, Fig. 6. The rocker box cover 30 is secured by bolts 31, Fig. 7 screwing into the pillars 20. The ribs 15 also direct cooling air on to the fuel injector 27, Fig. 5.
