Abstract

1,236,242. Liquid-cooled I.C. engine cylinder heads. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. Aug. 9, 1968 [Aug. 11, 1967] No. 38105/68. Heading F1B. The greater part of the liquid coolant flowing through the base wall apertures 18 to cool the base wall 17 of a cylinder head 1 having two inlet and two exhaust valves per cylinder is conducted away through a passageway 29 formed by wall portions of the exhaust passages 6 and 7 and the base wall. Coolant, flowing in the direction of the arrows 28, flows from the passage 29 to a channel 31 defined between the side wall 20, the exhaust passage 6 and partition walls 30, Fig. 1 and (33), Fig. 4 (not shown). The channel 31 is connected to a coolant outlet at the top or side of the head 1 by a channel, Fig. 3 (not shown), defined between the top wall and partitions (32) Fig. 3 and (33), Fig. 4. A seating 14 for a fuel injection nozzle is positioned between the valve seats 4, 5, 8 and 9 and a nozzle receiving recess (15), Fig. 4, is provided in the head top wall (16).
