Abstract
314,018. Redeker, H. L. June 21, 1928, [Convention date]. Cylinders, cooling.-In a valve-cooling device of the type in which the cooling - medium passes through channels in the valve housing and is directed over the underside of the valve head, a downward extension in the form of a rim or teeth is provided on the underside of the head so as to direct the cooling- medium against the outside of the valve guide, to increase the cooling effect and to prevent deposit of solid particles which would cause sticking of the valve. Fig. 1 shows the valve head formed with a rim 17 against the inside of which the cooling-currents from passages 4 in the valve guide are directed. The currents may be produced by a piston 8 secured to the valve stem and working in a chamber 5, open at 10 to the atmosphere formed with outlets 14 and a discharge valve 15. In a modification, the piston S is omitted and the cooling-fluid is supplied from a separate pump or container.
