Abstract

848,181. Valve gear; cylinders; mounting carburetters. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. Nov. 10, 1958 [Nov. 27, 1957], No. 36057/58. Classes 7(2), 7(3) and 7(6). A cam-shaft 15 for overhead valve engines is disposed laterally of the cylinders above the junction plane 12 of the cylinder head and block and is mounted in bearings 16 detachably secured to the cylinder block, whereby the cylinder head and valve gear can be removed, leaving the cam-shaft in position. The cylinder head has an induction manifold 25 cast therein connected to vertically disposed intake passages 32 between which are arranged the exhaust passages 27, the carburetter being mounted on a face 26 of the manifold 25. The valves 19 are inclined so that the valve rockers 22 are approximately vertical. The combustion chamber 20 is offset from the cylinder axis, a projecting surface 29 producing swirling on compression.
