Abstract

724,461. Cylinders ; cooling. MAYBACHMOTORENBAU GES. April 1, 1953 [April 5, 1952], No. 9033/53. Class 7 (2). A cylinder head for a liquid-cooled overhead valve fuel injection engine with a flat lower wall 1 closing the cylinder space is provided with a funnel-shaped reinforcing wall 8 supporting the centre portion of the lower wall, the funnel-shaped wall being integral with those portions of the valve passage walls nearest the cylinder axis. The cylinder head is provided with two inlet passages 9 and two exhaust passages 10 and a second vertical reinforcing wall 6 may be provided connected at the top to the wall 8, the wall 6 lying substantially on the same circle as the cylinder head fixing bolts 5. The cooling liquid enters at 15 and flows through openings 7 in the wall 6. A fuel injector or combustion chamber may be fixed in an opening 13 in the lower wall 1, an opening 14 in the top wall permitting access to the interior of the head. In a modification having three inlet and three exhaust passages the opening 14 in the top wall is closed by a removable plate.
