Abstract

952,659. Tractor attachments for gripping bales. NU-WAY HEATING PLANTS Ltd. Oct. 2, 1962 [Oct. 27, 1961], No. 38488/61. Heading B8H. A tractor attachment for lifting stacks of bales has arms 9, Fig. 1, which are moved into engagement with opposite sides of the stack by extension of a ram 15, further extension of the ram causes the arms to be tipped towards the tractor so that the bales rest against a vertical support 17, Fig. 2. A frame 1 of the device is connected to conventional power lifting arms 3 of a tractor and a member 4, pivoted to the frame 1, is attached to the tractor by a link 5 so that as the arms 3 are raised the member 4 remains vertical. The arms 9, Fig. 1, are held apart by springs 12. Initial movement of the ram 15 does not stretch the springs 12 until the arms 9 abut the bales. When this occurs further extension of the ram rotates levers 11 against the force of springs 12 thereby exerting a pull on links 13. This pull rotates a shaft 8, Fig. 2, mounted in the frame 1 and with it a lever 7 which is attached to a rod 6. Since the rod 6 is fixed to the top of the member 4 rotation of the shaft 8 raises the front of the frame 1 and with it the arms 9, thus tilting the bales backwards to a position in which they rest against the support 17.
