Abstract

904,491. Tractor load-handling attachments; gripping bales. PERRY, D. R. March 15,1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 9590/60. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). A device for gripping bales is mounted on the forward loader arms of a tractor and comprises a pair of forwardly-extending arms 8 which are pivoted at 8b to a frame 1, provided with brackets 3 pivoted to the tractor loader arms, and which are brought into engagement with the bale by extending an hydraulic ram 13 against the action of springs 11. The arms 8 and channel-section cross-member 18 of the frame 1 are provided with spikes 10, 22. Members 8a and 15, 25, 27 are provided on the arms 8 and frame 1, respectively, for locating the bales. The arms 8 are maintained substantially horizontal during luffing of the loader arms by a rope extending from the upper end 19 of the number 15 to anchorages on the tractor. A working platform may be placed on the arms 8 for supporting a workman.
