Abstract

663,948. Lever load-handling machines. BROWN TRACTORS. Ltd., D., and KERSEY, A. H. Aug. 26, 1949. [Aug. 26, 1948] No. 22477/48. Class 78 (iii). The normal power operated hitch links c at the rear of a tractor are adapted to swing a boom a which is pivoted to the tractor at a point b located to the rear of the pivot c<SP>1</SP> of the links c, and is connected by a vertical arm g to the normal upper hitch link h. The vertical arm is pivoted to an inverted U-shaped member e which is pivoted to the beam at e<SP>1</SP> and to the links c and f. A load handling attachment j is located at the end of the boom and is guided by a link i which, when adjusted parallely with the boom, ensures parallel motion of the member j during lifting and, when out of parallel therewith, tilts the member during lifting ; an initial tilt thereof may be effected by adjusting the length of the link h. In a modification, Fig. 2, the fixed pivot b is dispensed with, the vertical arm g is made rigid with the member e and the forward end of the boom is equipped with a roller k which, during lifting, rolls along a guide plate m. In another modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the pivot b is placed at such a height that the boom is located above the links c, the legs of the member e being extended to connect with links c below said boom. In further modifications (not shown) the beam a may also slew about a vertical axis, or the beam may comprise two booms in series so pivoted to one another that a magnified lift is obtained. The load handling member can be replaced by a number of different attachments including a hook or grab and when it is not necessary to maintain the attachment level the rear end of the link i is connected to the boom.
