Abstract
866,759. Shovelling machines. KOEHRING CO. July 30, 1958 [July 30,1957], No. 24565/58. Class 68(1). In a shovelling machine the scoop 41 is pivotally mounted at the outer end of a boom section 21 in turn pivotally connected at the other end to a further boom section 11 which is pivotally mounted on a self-propelled chassis 1. Means, e.g. rams 52 between the two boom sections 11, 21 allow of relative movement thereof. The location of the connection between the outer boom section 21 and a tension means 3, e.g. a cable of fixed length extending between the boom section 21 and a fixed point, e.g. a winch on the chassis 1 ensures of the scoop moving substantially horizontally as the boom sections are moved relative to one another by the rams 52. The cable 3 which passes about a pulley 26 on an upstanding bracket 24 on the boom section 21 when wound in after the completion of the digging operation by the rams 52 causes vertical swinging of the boom and transfer of the scoop to the dumping position. During vertical swinging of the boom the parallelogram linkages formed by the boom sections 11, 21, links 15, and scoopsupporting arms 31 prevent spillage from the scoop, which can be rotated about pivotal connections between it and the arms by a ram 55 extending between the scoop 41 and boom section 21.
