Abstract

748,086. Mole - ploughs. COOPER, T. March 22, 1954 [March 26, 1953], No. 8410/53. Class 6 (1). An arrangement for forming straight, uniformly - sloping moledrains irrespective of surface irregularities comprises an arched frame 34 supporting the front end of the main beam 1 of a mole-plough 4, the beam carrying a sight 45 which can be kept aligned with fixed boning rods 47 erected in the field, by raising and lowering the front end of the beam through hoisting tackle 36, 38 on the frame 34. The mole 4 is carried by a stem 3 held between plates 6 by a pin 8 selectively passing through aligned holes. An arched wheeled frame 12, 13, 14 is pivoted to a part 16 at the front of the beam and carries a hand-winch 20, 24 from which the rear end of the beam is suspended by cables 17 enabling the mole to be raised clear of the ground or lowered into use. The frame 34 carries an hydraulic jack 36 connected by chains 38 and links 41 to a skid 43 on the beam. The frame 34 is also mounted on skids 35 and connected by chains 44 to a link 28 on the front of the beam 1, the whole structure being drawn across the field by cables 31 attached to a winch on a tractor. An operator at E (Fig. 3) operates the handle 37 of the jack 36 to maintain the sight 45 aligned with the fixed boning rods 47 as the plough progresses. To slice away small protuberances a flat blade 48 is pivoted to the front of the beam 1 and is raised and lowered by a hand lever 51, a link 50 and a vertical arm 49 which is also sharpened to form a vertical blade.
