[Class 6 (i).] Apparatus for forming trenches comprises a sled 1, adjustable cutter blades 19, an adjustable coulter blade 4 at the rear end of the sled for penetrating the ground, and a tapering box structure 8 connected to the lower end of the coulter and provided with handles 24 and with interchangeable blades 20 to co-operate with the adjustable blades 19 in cutting the sides of the trench. The sled is arched as shown and provided with a central cutter disc 2 and laterally adjustable discs 3 in front of the adjustable inclined knives 19. The coulter 4 is adjustable vertically and carries an edged tool 7 to which the tapering box 8 is pivotally and detachably connected. The box is trapezoidal in vertical section and has attached to it laterally adjustable plates 12, 13 for delivering the soil at the sides of the trench. On each side of the tool 7 is a detachable tool 7<1>. The knives 19 are adjustable vertically, laterally, and angularly. The rear end of the box 8 may be raised by screwing up a nut 14 on a screwed rod 15 connected to the coulter 4 and passing through a sleeve 18 and a collar 16 carried by an upstanding bracket on the box 8. A wheeled frame 26 attached to the front of the sled 1 carries a manually operated winch 27 for raising the sled for transport. The sides of the box 8 may be movable to vary the size or shape of the trench.
