Abstract
496,260. Cutting water weeds. HOWARD, E. J., and DENNIS, C. July 15, 1937, No. 19591. [Class 6 (iii)] Apparatus for cutting water weed growths of the type comprising cutter arms drawn through the water and carried by a rod which is reciprocated while the boat is travelling is characterized by the arms being detachably fixed with either a forward or rearward inclination so that the device may be arranged to operate with the boat moving either forward or astern. The arms 1 are straight and have cutter blades 2 fixed on both sides. The inner ends of the arms are bolted to a bracket 3 so that they are inclined to each other either forwardly or rearwardly and the bracket is pivotally mounted on the end of an operating rod 4 that can be moved over a quadrant fixing plate 7 to adjust the depth of working. The angle of the bracket may be adjusted so that the arms are horizontal or so that they incline upwardly and outwardly. By dividing the lever 4 into two parts connected by a flanged coupling with many bolt holes, the lower portion with the bracket and arms may be adjusted around the axis of the upper portion. The bracket 3 may be provided with a skid 5 and may have blades 10 around its edge.
