Abstract

A B S T R A C T :
A gardening tool mounted on 2 wheels used for both cutting weeds at the roots and cultivating the soil. In this invention a thin steel wire is streched tightly from the ends of Z steel pins which are mounted by set-screws in the ends of a 13"
square tubing which is welded across the end of the handle to form a "T" shape. With this tool weeds are cut approx-imately 3 CM below the surface of the ground while pushing the implement forward. A staggered tooth harrow is then engaged which cultivates the soil while pulling in reverse.

Description

DISCLO SUR E:
____________ THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A MANU~LLY OPERABLI~ GARDEN IMPLEMENT
WHICH CUTS WEEDS AT THE ROOTS AND CULTIVATES THE SOIL.
It is common in devices used for gardening to employ straight metal blades or barR sharpened to a taper to cut weeds below the surface of the ground. even when sharp these are hard to operate because of the re~istance created by the bulk of the blade, and accumulation o moist soil .
Eventually, the sharpened tapered edge wear s off, leaving a dull, thick, blunt, round edge whicn does not cut cleanly, and is very hard to push through soil.
These disadvantages are easily overcome by the use of a thin steel wire in place of the sharpened blade. The wire never requires sharpening, will not collect moist soil, and has only a raction of thc resistance, thus making it very easy to slice through the soil.

~0805;~7 Tl~-3 Stagge red Tooth Harrow has ad~ar~tages o~ler the common rake, in that the teeth are spaced twice as far apart This prevents cl ogKing and trash dragging and is ju6t as efficient in cultivating because of the double row of te~th.
Moreover, the harrowing can only be done in reverse which gives a beautifying effect to your work because footprints are cultivated and weeds which may have been re-set or transplanted by tra~nping on them will also be cultivated and d i s 1 o d g e d .
Being mounted on wheels, this tool becomes a great aid in taking the labor out of gardening. The wheel~ not only carry its weight, but provide even depth for the wire cutter.
You can actually cultivate your entire garden in much the ~arne time that it would take to walk through it and back a row at a time.

width, the 2 steel wire mounting pin6 (#4) al~o serve a~ harrow teeth, thus making up tIIe differencc b~tween the 12" wire width setting and the 8~ harrow tooth ~pan #3 High tension wire weed-cutter #4 The 9 mm thick by 12 1/2 cm long steel depth control, tension control and wire guide pins #5 Tension adjustments nuts. The threads at the top of the pins serve as the wire tightener, This is achieved by turning the nuts on the pin located at the bottom o~ the square tube mounting bar, BO that the pins move down-ward #~ Steel pin set-screws and jamb nut which is used to fasten the wire #7 Cutting width adjustment holes, allowing for 8~, 9~, 10", 11" and 12~' setting6 #8 7 1/2" Wheels (Tread width 1 1/4" ) #9 9mm axle #10 Harrow engage di~engage rod #11 Harrow engage disengage handle. The staggered toothed harrow i9 disengaged when the handle is pulled backward. This tilts the h~rrow teeth in and upward forward attitude. This position must be maintained when pushing forward, or when the cutting wire i8 in u~e. For cultiva-ting and beautifying, the handle #11 i~ pushed forward, which engages the harrow teeth at a right angle to the earth. In this position the imp-lement must be pulled only. Because the harrow teeth extend 1 1/2"
lower than does the cutting wire, when engaged, the tool i9 raised so that the wheels are free. This not only provides weight to keep the harrow teeth in the ground, but also raises the tool enough so that the cutting wire just scrapes the surface of the ground, pulling out weeds which were cut off by the wire when puæhing the tool forward.
