Abstract

909,994. Straddle carrier vehicles. MATERIALS HANDLING EQUIPMENT (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. Feb. 1, 1960 [Oct. 30, 1958], No. 34872/58. Class 78 (3). A straddle carrier vehicle has four legs 2 dependent from its chassis, each carrying a load engaging fork 1 and each mounted for rotation about its vertical axis by means of a ram 5 and lever. The legs 2 independently or together can be raised or lowered telescopically by hydraulic rams 3 and chains. A pair of fins 7 operable by rams 8 is provided to stabilize a load narrower than the distance between the legs 2 and distance pieces (not shown) may be provided if a load when fully raised does not contact the underside of the straddle carrier chassis. The hydraulic rams 3, 5, 8 are fed by a reservoir 10 and a pump 9, driven by the vehicle engine and control is effected by manually operable levers 13. The legs may have means whereby each fork can pivot about a horizontal axis 3 and the forks may be arranged to pivot about the legs instead of the legs being mounted for rotation.
