A stook handling device for attachment to a luffing boom mounted on a tractor comprises a tipping fork 11, and a clamping bar 14 which is raised by engagement of a skid 26 with the ground, and is moved into the clamping position shown by the engagement of a bar 35 by a stook on the fork. In operation lowering of the skid 26 on to the ground causes a push rod 27, 27a to pivot arm 15 upwardly about pivot 18, and engagement of bar 35 by a stook moves an arm 36 about a pivot 39b thereby causing an abutment 37 to break a toggle joint 27d in push rod 27, 27a, whereafter the arm 15 drops and clamps the stook between bars 12 and 14. Consequent upon lowering of arm 15, a push rod 32 extends a further skid 31 from the jib 1 and this, on further forward movement of the tractor, acts through rod 32 on arm 15 to increase the clamping pressure on bar 14, and also prevents the fork from grounding. The jib is then raised over the discharge location, the operator releases a bolt 41 by means of a cable 47 and lever 44, so causing the fork to tip and, through a spring 25 and push rod 23a, arm 15 is raised, skid 31 is retracted and skid 26 is extended. As soon as the stook leaves the fork it returns to its original position and the apparatus is then conditioned to repeat the above cycle. In various modifications (not shown) arm 15 may be telescopic to permit adjustment of the height of bar 14, a further fork may replace bar 14, and a cable may be attached to the toggle joint 27d to enable the operator to close the clamp at will.
