Abstract

884,086. Shovelling machines. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 6, 1960 [May 11, 1959], No. 12179/60. Class 68(1). In a front loading shovel excavator in which the scoop 22 is pivotally mounted at one end of a vertically swingable boom 10 so as to be pivoted relative to the boom by a hydraulic jack 48 there is associated with the jack a cam and linkage system actuated by the relative movement of the piston rod and cylinder of the jack and therefore of the scoop relative to the boom to move a pointer visible from the operator's position so that the operator may know of the position of the scoop to the boom even when the scoop is hidden from his direct view by the chassis of the excavator. Preferably the cam surface 84 is mounted on the scoop 22 of the jack and the cam follower 76 and the associated linkage for operating the pointer 66 is mounted on the cylinder of the jack 48.
