Abstract
1,059,533. Tractor attachments for lifting bales. W. I. M. PERRY. Oct. 30, 1964 [Oct. 7, 1963], No. 39370/63. Heading B8H. A ram E<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, which moves a movable arm D<SP>1</SP> of a bale-lifting attachment for tractors towards a fixed arm D is mounted outside the arms on a bracket C<SP>3</SP> so that more bales may be accommodated between the arms. The bales are gripped laterally and the device may be attached to the front loader arms B of a tractor or the rear carrier or it may incorporate lifting means which may be secured to fixed points on the tractor. The arm D<SP>1</SP> is withdrawn by a spring F. Bale retaining side and end rails D<SP>3</SP>, D<SP>4</SP>, C<SP>4</SP> are provided. The side of the device bearing the arm D<SP>1</SP> is resiliently mounted on the tractor by a pin H, Fig. 5, which slides in vertical slots C<SP>5</SP> in members C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> and is attached to the member C<SP>1</SP> by a spring H<SP>1</SP>. When a load of bales is lifted the spring H<SP>1</SP> is compressed as the slots C<SP>5</SP> move downwards with respect to the pin H. This causes the lifter to tilt slightly so that the bales rest against the side rails D<SP>3</SP>. In a modification, Fig. 6, the movable arm comprises a part J<SP>1</SP> pivoted to a part J which is pivoted about the point J 2 on the frame by a ram E<SP>1</SP>.
