Abstract

1455462 Grippers J C YOUL 4 Dec 1973 [6 Dec 1972] 56050/73 Heading B8H A gripper attachment for mounting on the three point linkage of a tractor for handling logs, comprises a pair of pivotally interconnected jaws 9 mounted by way of a universal coupling 6 to the upper end of a support post 14 and a chain or cable 26 whose ends are attached to respective jaws and which passes around pulleys 29 mounted on the post 14 whereby to limit the movement of the jaws relative to the post. The jaws have upper extensions 35 with a hydraulic actuator 8 connected therebetween and one of the jaws has a pair of log engaging knife edges 12 to receive the log engaging knife edge 12 of the other jaw therebetween when handling logs of relatively small diameter. A lateral support 15, secured to the lower end of the post 14, mounts a pair of arms 19 which together with a bracket 17 serve for mounting the attachment on the lift linkage of a tractor and springs 33 connected between brace members 18, connected between the arms 19 and the post 14, and the jaws to bias the latter into the position shown in Fig. 1. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 10 (not shown) the frame (14) is pivotally mounted on a wheeled chassis having arms (36) for attachment to the lift linkage of a tractor and a draw bar (41) for attachment to a coupling on the tractor.
