Abstract
815,998. Tractor load-handling attachments. COATES, D. H. Sept. 25, 1957 [June 29, 1956], No. 20289/56. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). The grab arms 1, 2 of a sack-lifting grab are movably mounted relative to a bar 11, and means are provided so that on lifting of the bar the arms 1, 2 are prevented from separating. The bar 11 comprises two spaced bars connected at their ends and preferably also intermediately, between which the arms 1, 2 pass. The mounting may be by a bar 19, Fig. 1, so shaped as to urge pins 20, 21 on the arms 1, 2 together on lifting, or may comprise links 29, 30, Fig. 7, separation of the arms being prevented in this case by a pin 32 attached to the arm 2 and engaging a notch 31 in the link 30. In either case the arms are urged together by a spring and are separated after lowering by links 9 which may be pulled over-centre by a rod 10. A circular jaw 5 mounted on the arm 2 cooperates with a semi-circular recessed jaw 3 on the arm 1 to grip a sack. The grab is intended for mounting by trunnions 17, 18 on a tractor fore-loader, and operation of the rod 10 may be by mechanical, electric or hydraulic means. In the Fig. 1 embodiment the arm 1 is latched to the bar 11 when the jaws are open by a stud 14 on a leaf spring 15, this stud being disengaged when the jaws close by the arm 2 engaging a cam 16 on the spring 15.
