570,961. Lifting-dogs. ENGLISH STEEL CORPORATION, Ltd., and BENSON, R. C. May 28, 1943, No. 8580. [Class 78 (iv)] A grab or lifting device for heavy articles comprises levers H, H<1> pivoted on a common pivot G, Fig 1, or on the ends of a link or distance piece B, Fig. 3, the levers being formed with cam surfaces engaged by rollers D carried by the lifting shackle A, so that as the shackle is lifted the lower ends of the levers grip the load to be lifted with a force proportional to the weight of the load. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, there are two pairs of.levers one pair at each end of the pivot pin G. The shackle A carries a cross-bar E connected to the pivot pin G by telescopic member F which may be locked when it is desired to hold the jaws K open while the grab is being lowered. Stops J are provided on the ends of the levers. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the grab is locked in the open position by a catch Q. Specification 12567/11, [Class 78 (iv)], is referred to.
