Abstract

1467896 Hedge cutting machines BRITISH LELY Ltd 4 April 1974 15097/74 Heading A1F A hedge cutting machine comprises a frame 2, Fig. 3, coupled to a tractor 7, a boom 15 pivotally mounted upon the frame at one end and having a flail type cutting unit 25, Fig. 1, pivotally mounted on its other end. The boom pivots around a horizontal shaft 12, Fig. 3, so as to be able to pass through a vertical plane containing the shaft 12, by means of a single-acting hydraulic ram '19 mounted between the boom and the frame. The cutting unit 25 pivots about a shaft 31 under the control of a double-acting hydraulic ram 35 which is connected between a cam projection (34), Fig. 5 (not shown), integral with a support shaft (22) on which the unit 25 is mounted and a pivot pin (35A) fixed to the boom. This mechanism may be replaced by a rack and. pinion arrangement Fig. 8 (not shown) or a cranked pinion system Fig. 9 (not shown). The flail drive mechanism consists of multiple sheaves (29), 58, corresponding V belts (28) 60 and a gearbox (43), Fig. 2 (not shown). The cutting unit may operate on either side of the tractor and adopt a range of attitudes for cutting hedges, borders, grass verges and the like; it may be transported above the tractor by placing the boom in a vertical position where it may be retained by a spring loaded pin (21) Fig. 2 (not shown) communicating with a corresponding hole in the boom. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 943552.
