967,282. Rotary-scythe mowing machines. H. J. BUDD. Aug. 9, 1963 [May 21, 1962], No. 19518/62. Heading A1F. A mowing machine comprises a tractor 1 having mounted thereon an assembly of rotary-scythe cutters, the assembly comprising a first group 2 of cutters extending from one side of the tractor centrally thereof and a second group 3 disposed forwardly of the front wheels 4. The first group is mounted on a beam 7 hinged at 11 so that the part of the beam beyond the tractor wheel-track can be swung upward for transport; the second group is similarly hinged (Fig. 3, dotted position). Both groups are mounted on caster-wheels 10, 22 which permit them to float vertically to overcome ground-irregularities. The groups are driven by belts 34, 35, 42 from a pulley 33 secured to the power take-off 30. In a modification (Fig. 7) the lateral group of cutters includes an extra, outermost, cutter mounted on a pivoted arm 50 and loaded by a tension spring 51 permitting the cutter to swing bodily inwards on meeting obstruction. This cutter is associated with a rubber-tyred guard 52 which rotates to roll around any tree-trunk which is encountered.
