Abstract

746,108. Reaping-machines. OMMODT, J. Jan. 28, 1954, No. 2662/54. Class 6 (3). A reaping-machine comprises a wheeled frame 1 carrying a transverse reciprocating cutter 3 and having a pair of laterallyspaced, belt-conveyers 7, 8 each sloping rearwardly and up- . wardly from the cutter at 25- 35 degrees inclination to the horizontal, the upper runs of the conveyers being co-planar and travelling together towards a central gap 9 through which the crop is discharged on to the ground in a single swath A having the grain-heads in a criss-cross rearwardly-inclined formation. The frame is triangular with an apex at the rear, each apex having a wheel 2, 46 and the rear-wheel 46 being a castor carried on telescopic adjustable links 55, 56. Each of the forward wheels 2 is driven separately from an engine 6 through a reversible gear-box and clutch 71, 72 so that it can be idled or driven forwardly or rearwardly. The links 55, 56 permit the rear wheel to run clear of the swath A. Above the conveyers a reel 32 is mounted on pivoted arms 36 so as to be raisable by telescopic guides 38, 39 operated by cables 40 from a lever 41. The motor 6 drives the reel through a belttransmission 98, and the conveyers 7, 8 through a chain and bevel-gear transmission 17, 13, 14, the latter including a belt-drive 21 which may be caused to slip by the operation of a controllever 27 adjacent to an operator's seat 28. Guards 30 around the wheels terminate forwardly in lateral crop-dividers 31.
