Abstract

1,119,644. Mowing machines. P. W. ZWEEGERS. 7 July, 1965 [11 July, 1964; 9 Oct., 1964; 19 Feb., 1965], No. 2878l/65. Heading A1F. A mowing machine comprises a plurality of rotary cutter elements mounted on a supporting beam, and means for supporting the beam on the three point lift linkage of a tractor which comprises an intermediate beam pivoted at one end to the supporting beam and at the other end to a sub-frame adapted for mounting on the tractor, an attachment means on the supporting beam at a position spaced along the length of the beam away from the sub-frame, a linkage element extending between the supporting beam and the sub-frame, said linkage normally being slack and being tensioned by lifting operation of the linkage to raise the supporting beam disposed in a horizontal positon, said linkage comprising a first link connected at one end to the upper part of the subframe and a second link connected at one end to said attachment means, the other end of each of the two links being pivotally connected to an upwardly extending lever at a position above the lower end of said lever, which lower end is pivotally connected to the intermediate beam. As illustrated, the intermediate beam 46 is arranged to pivot in a vertical plane about a driving shaft 37 (Fig. 2) and in a horizontal plane about an axis 32. The pivotal movement about the axis 32 moves the mowing beam 1 into its transport position, but this movement is normally prevented, unless an obstacle is encountered, by a detent device 54 (Fig. 2). The mowing beam may be provided with partitions on both sides of each set of gears driving an element, thus defining a chamber for lubricant. In alternative embodiments the chain linkage 48 is replaced by a rod linkage (Figs. 5-12, not shown). Also the mowing beam may have crop dividers and a guide plate attached thereto. (Figs. 20, 21, not shown). In a further embodiment (Fig. 19, not shown) the supporting beam may pivot rearwardly relative to the intermediate beam.
