Abstract

872,372. Rotary-scythe mowers. ARTHUR, I. K. June 10, 1959, No. 19802/59. Class 6(3). A rotary-scythe vegetation-cutter comprises a driven rotor 1 carrying cutters 25 and having connected to it a support 17 for a downwardly-convex disc 23, the disc and support being coaxial with the rotor and being axially adjustable in order to alter the cutting height. The rotor 1 comprises an outer tube 11 concentric with the support 17 having a horizontal flange 12 to which is secured a rubber or canvas annulus 13. The cutters are carried by an outer metal annulus 15 secured to the annulus 13 and having a ring 16 welded to its undersurface to engage the ground when the cutters are in their lowest position. The support 17 comprises a tube having a pin and slot connection 18, 19 with the outer tube 11 and having bearings 21 for a shaft 22 carrying the disc 23. The rotor is driven by bevel-gearing 3, 5 from a telescopic shaft 8, the bevel-gear box 4 being supported on a tractor drawbar or lift-links by a bracket 9.
