Abstract

927,245. Rotary-scythe mowers; hedge-cutters. A. BORDIER, and R. BORDIER. June 22, 1961, No. 22600/61. Classes 6(2) and 6(3). A machine for cutting brushwood and hedges comprises a horizontal transverse arm 6 mounted on a chassis 7 at its inner end and carrying a platform 3 at its outer end fitted with rotary knives 36 and fixed knives 65. The chassis 7 is rectangular and is mounted on draught-links 8, 9, on a tractor 1. The arm 2 is mounted in a rotatable bearing-sleeve 13 pivoted about a vertical bolt 14 on the chassis, the arm being slidably adjustable in the sleeve. The arm also passes through a second pivoted sleeve 16 in which it can move laterally against spring- pressure, adjustable by a bolt 24. The platform 3 is carried by an arm 2 which is adjustable about a horizontal pivot 5 on the end of the arm 6. The rotating knives are secured to hubs 39 and have lateral blades 37 and serrated outer edges 64; spade-shaped or lanceolate blades may also be used, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown). The fixed blades 65 are serrated, the serrations being inclined in opposite directions in adjacent sections and they may be arranged in a single line or in groups forming re-entrant portions for gripping thick stalks, Figs. 7, 12 (not shown). In Fig. 10, the chassis-mounting includes a pair of vertical rings 75 engaging one another through rollers, one ring being attached to the draught-links and the other carrying the chassis 7a. Relative movement between the rings is effected by a hydraulic ram 81 connected between them, the platform thus being raisable into the dotted positions 3d, 3e. The arm may be extended by a portion 80. Drive is transmitted from the tractor take-off 56 to the cutters by jointed shafts, such as 53, and a gear box 54 mounted on the chassis 7. Excess movement of the arm 6 about the pivot 14 may operate means (not shown) for declutching the tractor motor.
