Dec. 31, 1962 [Jan. 17, 1962; Dec. 5, 1962], No. 48990/62. Heading A1B. Tractor-driven apparatus particularly for cultivating vineyards and having at least one implement adapted to be hinged inwardly when it strikes an obstacle comprises a feeler lever 7 which pivots when striking the obstacle to close a clutch 8 between a tractor drive and a reeling shaft thereby winding up a cable 10 to pivot inwardly the arm supporting the implement, the arm also supporting clutch 8, lever 7 and the reeling shaft and comprising parallel links 56, 57. The feeler lever 7 operates the clutch through a bell-crank lever 74, 74a and after clearing the obstacle, is returned to its normal position by spring 33. The links 56, 57 pivot about points 54, 55 until bar 60 carried by the links strikes a stop 75 on the chassis 1 of the apparatus, the links returning to their normal outward position under the action of spring 66. The pulley of the clutch is driven by transmission gearing 86 and bevel gear 87 from the tractor power take-off shaft. As shown the cultivating implements are draw-hoes or plough shares 62-65 but rotary cultivating, or hoeing or mowing implements may be used in which case drive is taken from bevel gear 87. In a modification the feeler lever is mounted on the front part of the chassis 1.
