Abstract

948,260. Artificial respiration masks. S. M. HISON HOLMDAHL, E. A. NORDLUND, and G. F. PERSSON. June 28, 1960 [June 29, 1959; Oct. 23, 1959], No. 22552/60. Heading A5T. A respiratory mask for use in mouth-to-mouth artificial respiration is made of elastic material and has a stub pipe 2 for supplying air to the patient and an opening 10 through which the operator may insert his thumb for opening the patient's mouth. The opening has an inwardly directed flap-like flange which seals the opening when the thumb is inserted and which may be closed to form a finger-stall-like member. A nose clip 12 is attached to the mask which has a face-engaging flange 6 which is thinner than the remainder of the mask. The mask may have two identical valves (Fig. 7, not shown), one for supplying air and the other serving as a finger hole, the mask being symmetrical about an axis through the two valves and about an axis perpendicular to that axis. The nose clip may be suspended from a centrally placed bracket. The mask may be used for practising mouthto-mouth artificial respiration on a training doll.
