Abstract

1,183,054. Resuscitators. D. G. J. BARKER. 10 July, 1967 [28 Oct., 1966], No. 48424/ 66. Heading A5T. A resuscitation device comprises a masking sheet 10 to lay over the mouth of the patient, an opening 11 in the sheet, and a valve device 13 attached to the sheet to permit air to be blown through the opening into the patient's mouth, the opening being closed by the valve device on exhalation from the patient. As shown, the resuscitation device comprises a flexible plastics sheet 10 to which is sealed the valve device 13 and a mouthpiece 18 which is to be fitted to the patient, the valve device having two apertures 15, 16 offset from the opening 11 in the sheet and separated by an intermediate part 17 such that resuscitating air from a mouth to mouth donor passes through the apertures 15, 16 and the opening 11 but exhaled air from the patient forces the sheet against the intermediate part 17 to close the opening. The mouthpiece is of a rigid plastics material and is formed with a transverse stiffening bar 20.
