Abstract

947,353. Powder distributers. J. H. HAYIM. Oct. 9, 1962 [Oct. 19, 1961], No. 37568/61. Heading B2F. A self-contained apparatus for use in the hand and for disseminating pulverulent material comprises a container 1 for gas under pressure, valve means for controlling the escape of the gas from the container 1 to a discharge nozzle 18, and a receptacle 2 for the pulverulent material 21 communicating with a discharge nozzle 19 through an aperture 20 whereby the discharge of gas from the nozzle 18 causes the material 21 to enter the nozzle 19 and be entrained by the discharged gas. The container 1 is screwed at 3 into a block 5 against a washer 6, and a needle valve 8 is urged against the washer by one end 13b of a trigger lever 13, pivoted at 14, which is urged at the other end 13a away from the block by a spring 15. The gas-discharge nozzle 18 is screwed at 17 into the block 5, and is coaxial with the material-discharge nozzle 19, to form an injector-type mixer, which is carried by the container 2. The bottom end of the container 2 may be covered by a screen to allow the inflow of air ; but, as shown, a light piston 22 having a rubber disc 23 thereon to retard downward movement of the piston, is used to follow the material upwardly. A push-on cap 24, arranged over the nozzle 19, is blown off when the apparatus is operated. The gas in the container 1 may be compressed carbon dioxide, and may be in a partially liquid state. The pulverulent material 21 in the container 2 may be pepper, a staining dye, a pest control, fertilizer, or fire extinguishing material.
