[Also in Group XXIX] A pocket powder sprayer comprises a head piece 2 screwed to a powder container 1, and an extension 5 is threaded to receive a ring 7 secured to a sleeve 19. The extension is internally threaded to receive a member 16 integral with a plate 13 below which is arranged a packing ring 15. A cap 20 within the sleeve 19 is urged outwardly by a spring 25, and during operation is axially reciprocated with the operator's finger over an orifice 26 during the downward movement, thereby forcing air through a bore 18 in the member 16 and a bore 11 in the head piece to both the container and a passage 33. A tube (not shown) depends from a sleeve 36 to near the container bottom, and the powder is stirred up by the flow of air therefrom and is drawn through a nozzle 31 and ejected from an outlet 34. In the closed position Fig. 1, the ring 7 is screwed down on the extension and a packing ring 9 closes the outlet 34 ; a plate 21 of resilient material receives the grooved end of the member 16 to hold the cap in its innermost position and to seal the bore 18. Instead of the plate 21 a sheet metal cap with resilient edges may receive the member 16. The end of the sleeve 36 within the bore 11 is cut off obliquely, so that by turning the sleeve the air supply to the passage 33 and hence the powder delivery is regulated. An air passage 37, which is sealed by the packing 15 when the sprayer is operated, allows movement of the cap into the sleeve to close the device. In Fig. 7 the axial bore 51 is closed in the inoperative position by a valve cone 521 on a stem 52. In that position a ball 53 on the stem engages a ring 55 in the cap, and the valve cone is urged upwardly against a valve seat at the lower end of the bore 51 by the spring 25.
